With improved living conditions and better health care throughout life, life expectancy in Cwm Taf Morgannwg continues to increase. However, for many people, getting older may bring new challenges such as loneliness, isolation or more complex health problems.

We know older people value their independence and ability to live in their own home for as long as they are able. Our role is to ensure older people get the help they need to live healthy, happy and independent lives. It’s important they feel they have a voice and that their voice is heard.

Our role

To ensure older people know how they can tell us about any problems they may be facing and how we can improve or change the services and support that we offer.

To understand what support may be needed, we work with older people and organisations that support them to improve and create better services.

Through the Transformation and Integrated Care Funds, we’ve already funded a number of projects that are changing health and social care for the better.

You can read about them below.

Building a picture

Through research and working with organisations who represent older people across the region, we can build a picture of how older people  may be feeling.

Our findings show older people:

  • Value their independence and ability to live in their own homes
  • Expect health and social care to work together to co-ordinate their care
  • Need access to good quality information and advice
  • Would like to be recognised and valued by professionals if they are a carer
  • Value access to public transport, social networks, day centres and public amenities such as libraries as a meeting place
  • May lose their confidence following bereavement, illness or frailty etc,
  • Want to feel connected to their community and feel safe
  • Want more housing/accommodation options
  • Would like better access to community support

Information such as this helps us to understand how older people can  be supported, and live as independently as possible.

Whether you are an older person, a family member/ friend, or support older people, this page will  keep you up to date on our progress and ways to get involved.
